Five days training programme on “Capacity Development on nature based-farming systems for capacity building and livelihood improvement of the tribal farmers of Meghalaya” under TSP

        A five-day training programme titled "Capacity Development on Nature-Based Farming Systems for Capacity Building and Livelihood Improvement of Tribal Farmers of Meghalaya" was organized at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Meghalaya, and Umket Village, Meghalaya, from March 18th to March 22nd, 2025. A total of 36 farmers, including 32 women and 4 men, participated in the programme. The primary objective of the training was to sensitize farmers about sustainable farming practices by integrating indigenous knowledge with modern ecological principles. This programme envisions a sustainable and self-reliant farming system that aligns with the ecological and socio-economic needs of Meghalaya’s tribal farmers. By integrating traditional wisdom with modern eco-friendly practices, the initiative aims to create a replicable model for sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security, economic stability, and environmental conservation. The training programme included both theoretical and practical sessions covering various topics related to Integrated Farming Systems (IFS) and its components. These topics included agroforestry, livestock management, floriculture, economic plants, fisheries, mushroom cultivation, beekeeping, natural farming, soil management, water conservation measures, and the use of farm tools and implements. Subject matter experts from ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam, delivered insightful lectures and provided valuable information on scientific farming technologies. The resource persons included Dr. B. Makdoh, Dr. N. Raju Singh, Dr. Krishnappa R., Mr. Gojendro Singh, Dr. T.R. Borah, Dr. Bijen Kumar, Dr. M. Prabha Devi, Dr. H. Jiten Singh, Dr. Rumki Sangma, Mr. Tasso Tayung, Mr. Praveen G, Mr. Koushik Bag, and Mr. Raviteja P. The programme was coordinated by Dr. N. Raju Singh and co-coordinated by Dr. B. Makdoh, Mr. S. Gojendro Singh, and Mr. Praveen G. The entire event was facilitated by Dr. S. Hazarika, Nodal Officer of the TSP and Head, Division of System Research and Engineering, ICAR RC NEH Region, Umiam.
